CUPPING

WHAT IS CUPPING?

Cupping utilizes silicone or glass cups to create a suction effect. While most instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) techniques compress your muscles to manipulate your muscle tissues, cupping lifts and decompresses the muscle tissues. The lift created with the suction works to increase mobility and decrease any discomfort you might be experiencing from an injury or dysfunction.

Cupping can either be static or dynamic. Static cupping happens when the cups are left on the targeted area for an amount of time determined by the goals your therapist and you set. Dynamic cupping occurs when the suction is created in the cups, and then the cups are carefully moved- keeping the suction and working to decompress larger areas of your body.

BENEFITS

The lift cupping creates increases blood flow and triggers the body’s natural healing response. Cupping can often result in circular marks on the skin, but every person will respond differently to this treatment. Spooner therapists use cupping as a compliment to your treatment plan to help you move better, feel better, and perform better.
