Ryne Foster PT, DPT, OCS, FAFS, Cert. VRS has been with Spooner for 15 years, and what a journey it has been! Throughout the years, he has held multiple roles and contributed to the growth of various clinics. Join us as we take a deeper dive into Ryne’s journey.
EARLY DAYS AND CAREER GROWTH
Ryne started his career at Spooner Scottsdale in 2009, where he worked for about five years. He then moved to the Biltmore clinic, where he played a vital role in enhancing the clinic’s operations. Biltmore was a new acquisition at the time, and Ryne’s efforts significantly contributed to the clinic’s growth. Ryne helped market the clinic and build a successful team from just two or three therapists into a thriving practice. Through his marketing efforts and team-building at Biltmore, Ryne sharpened his leadership skills, preparing him for a future Clinic Director position.
LEADERSHIP ROLES AND ACHIEVEMENT
Ryne’s career took a turn when he started applying for director positions. He stated that one of his biggest achievements was becoming the Clinic Director at Desert Ridge, a role he felt confident and ready for. Ryne directed the Desert Ridge clinic for about three years before moving over to the Old Town Clinic Director position in 2019. In total, Ryne spent about six years as a Clinic Director across different locations.
CHALLENGES
In 2021, Ryne decided to step down from his role as Clinic Director because he felt burnt out from the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic brought. The pandemic was a hard time for everyone, but Ryne chose to focus on his work-life balance and returned to being a Staff Therapist. Although he misses working closely with the leadership team, Ryne enjoys the improved balance and reduced stress in his current role.
SUCCESSES AND CONTINUING EDUCATION
Ryne also stated that another big achievement for him was completing the GIFT journey through the Gray Institute and becoming an AFS Fellow. He said this experience changed how he treats patients and has deeply impacted his practice. Despite already having his OCS and having done numerous continuing education courses, the Gray Institute fellowship stands out as a key moment in Ryne’s career.
MENTORSHIP AND TEACHING
Ryne is passionate about mentoring and teaching. He takes on three or four students a year and mentors these younger therapists. Ryne also teaches on the side at Creighton, where he shares his knowledge, advice, and experience with aspiring physical therapists.
ADVICE FOR NEW PHYSICAL THERAPISTS
Ryne advises new graduates and physical therapists, “Take every opportunity to learn and hone your skills. Find a mentor, ask questions, and seek learning experiences inside and outside the clinic to explore other fields/specialties.”
PERSONAL LIFE AND INTERESTS
Outside of work, Ryne loves to spend time outdoors. He enjoys golfing, hiking, and camping with his wife and dogs. He also loves to go hunting and shooting as well. Ryne often takes trips up North for a change of scenery and to escape the Arizona heat.
Fun fact: Ryne is a big Star Wars fan. He and his wife have watched all the movies and shows. They enjoy indulging in their favorite franchise together.

Ryne’s career journey illustrates the importance of dedication, continuous learning, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. His commitment to his patients and passion for mentoring and teaching make him a valuable member of the Spooner team. Congratulations on 15 years. Here’s to many more!
